The gli convertible got the 1 8 gti engine in 1982 and the smaller petrol lump was replaced by the 1595cc carburettor unit in 1983.
Ive looked at several threads where people have either cut along the roof gutters or chopped the whole roof off at the pillars niether of which suit me.
You can then remove the whole skin complete and replace with the new one then hammer the gutter section you cut off back over the new roof skin and inner gutter to remake the gutter as it left the factory then you just have to very slowly weld the cut lines and dress it back did exactly this on a 800 mm section of my roof.
